This course describes the requirements of Regulation (EC) 183/2005 on feed hygiene for primary production. It has been designed for enforcement officers carrying out feed hygiene inspections on farms, and is supported by practical examples of good practice, and explanations of the relevant registration codes. It will also be useful for farmers and consultants to understand the requirements of the regulation.

Designed to meet the competency requirements of Section 2 IV of the Feeds Code of Practice Guidance

This course is an on-demand course which can be taken at the trainee’s convenience. It is split into 4 modules, with a multiple choice ‘quiz’ at the end – total time 3-4hrs.

1) An overview of Regulation (EC)183/2005 on feed hygiene at the level of primary production (30mins)

An overview of Regulation (EC)183/2005 for feed hygiene on farms; registration codes for farmers and examples of farms R11, R13, R14  

2) Requirements for Annex I of Reg (EC) 183/2005 for businesses at the level of Primary Production   (35 mins)

Annex I of Regulation (EC)183/2005 requires businesses to identify control hazards at the level of primary production; this section explains the main hazards and contaminants which may be found in primary products, specifically cereals and forages

3) Identifying those businesses which fall into Annex II of Reg (EC) 183/2005 and require HACCP  (25 mins)

Identifying those farms which are elevated to Annex II due to their operations and feeds used; an explanation of the requirements of Annex II and HACCP on these farms: Grain drying, propionic acid treatment and mixing using additives for exclusive use on a farmer’s own holdingR10 premises

4) Good feeding practice Annex III (15 mins)

The feeding of food-producing animals
